 The Agony and the Ecstasy
Charlton Heston and Rex Harrison portray two of the Renaissance’s most colourful figures in this historical drama based on Irving Stone’s best-seller set in the early 16th century. When Pope Julius II (Harrison) commissions Michelangelo (Heston) to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, the artist initially refuses. Virtually forced to do the job by Julius, he later destroys his own work and flees Rome. Eventually resumed, the project becomes a battle of wills fuelled by artistic and temperamental differences that form the core of this movie. Nominated for an OSCAR for Cinematography and named one of the year’s best films by the National Board of Review, The Agony and the Ecstasy is a rich dramatisation of the struggle behind one of the world’s artistic masterpieces. It is a story – and a film – that is both moving and fascinating.

 The Bible... In The Beginning
The greatest stories of the Old Testament are brought to the screen with astounding scope and power in this international film which depicts the first 22 chapters of Genesis. This is the spectacular story of man’s creation, his fall, his survival and his indomitable faith in the future. Matching the epic scale of the production are performances by George C. Scott as Abraham, Ava Gardner as Sarah, and Peter O’Toole as the haunting presence of the Angel of God. The legendary John Huston directs and delivers a commanding performance as Noah. From the film’s opening amidst cosmic chaos, to its lingering message of hope and salvation. The bible stands as a monumental motion picture achievement.

 It's a Wonderful Life DVD

A Christmas Classic!
James Stewart was once quoted saying that this was his favourite film in which he acted.

One of the best loved films of all time, Frank Capra’s masterpiece tells the story of George Bailey who spends his whole life helping others at his own sacrifice and trying to make good in a small town only to feel as though it has all been for nothing. As Christmas draws near his despair only seems to grow as the town millionaire causes George more trouble at the bank where he works. On the verge of suicide, George’s guardian angel is sent down to show him what life would have been like for all those around him had he not been born. This film touches the heart and soul deeply and just makes us realise how one person’s life can affect so many others. They just don’t make films like this anymore. (PG), 1946, 130 minutes, B&W.
